N.E.R.D.S. (noun)
A holistic, evidence-based approach to mental/emotional health that incorporates Nutrition, Exercise, Rejuvenation, Decisions, and Support.
Hi, I’m Melinda Delisle, a clinical nutritionist and human being with (very) human experiences and struggles.
I specialize in working with people who feel overwhelmed, anxious, or want to throw in the towel (with their health or emotionally). I support them to cultivate more energy, confidence, and joy in their lives by helping them get to know their bodies and physiological needs as well as addressing their emotional needs.
Why is it important to combine physiology and emotional health?
To explain, I could:
Cite the research on mindfulness and improved health.
Discuss the biochemistry of how high cortisol (stress hormone) wreaks havoc in our bodies, making healing difficult.
Throw in some data about how people who have experienced a lot of childhood trauma are at a much higher risk of chronic diseases.
All which are true. (And which I explain in great detail in this newsletter!)
But the real answer about why this integrated approach is so important to me is due to my own journey.
I have struggled with anxiety, depression, and emotional dysregulation. Nothing was diagnosed and I was “high-functioning” for decades. Eventually, the stressors of life caught up with me and I had to do something.
After a lot of trial and error, I found that a combination of therapy, emotional management techniques, self-love, a personalized nutrition plan, and lifestyle habits were key to becoming happier.
So when readers, clients, or even new friends recently made on a hiking trail, share with me about their struggles with mental or emotional health, I get it.
I may not have had the exact same issue, but I understand what it’s like to feel like you can’t cope, like you’re alone, and like nothing will ever change.
I have empathy for you not only because I’m absurdly sensitive, but because I have been to those depths and come back out again. I believe that you can come out again, too.
This newsletter is designed with you in mind:
To elucidate the causes of mental & emotional dysregulation that are often overlooked.
To provide realistic & practical strategies for returning to physiological, hormonal, and joyful homeostasis.
To support you in learning to love yourself as you are - even with your mental health struggles - because you DO deserve it.
To offer hope, because no one deserves to be trapped in the prison of their own mind.
I would be honored to be a guide on your journey toward health in your mind, body, and heart. Will you join me?
